What to put in your anniversary brief

The songs people love most are the specific ones. Generic romance is forgettable; the detail that only you two would recognise is what makes someone cry on the first listen. Include as many of these as you can:

• The year you met and where — the bar, the class, the app, the wedding you both hated.
• Their nickname, and the nickname only you use.
• The fight you still laugh about now.
• The thing they always do — the humming, the third alarm, the way they order coffee.
• A line you say to each other that no one else would understand.
• Where you are now: the house, the kids, the dog, the plan for next year.

You do not need to write lyrics. Standard and Premium welcome your own lyrics if you have them, but plain notes work perfectly — we turn them into verses.

Which genre suits an anniversary song?

Folk and acoustic sit well with long marriages and quiet, specific storytelling. Pop works for a celebratory first or fifth anniversary. R&B and soul suit a slow, romantic listen. Jazz feels right for a milestone dinner, and Musical Theatre is a surprisingly good fit if your relationship runs on humour.
